NOTES: "By the Grace of the Lord" is a traditional African-American spiritual blues recorded by Ike Gordon as a solo with electric guitar circa 1975. The third verse is irregular. The melody and chords are very similar to the Chicago Travelers song, "Don't Let Satan Turn You Around," on D'Amico in 1961.
BY THE GRACE OF THE LORD- Ike Gordon
By the [E]grace of my [B7]Lord
I come a long [E]way [A] [E]
By the grace of my Lord
I come a long [B7]way. [C#7] (or C7) [B7]
I've been [E] traveling this stormy land
*Lord come [A]take hold of my [E]hand
By the grace of my [B7]Lord
I come a long [E]way [A] [E] [B7]
Jesus said the Lord is my shepherd
And I pray- (You'll) be my shepherd too
By the grace of my Lord
I come a long way
Lord you take me when I was hungry
Carried coming here every time I get lonely
By the grace of my Lord
I come a long way.
Your grace Lord, taught me here
Your grace Lord brought me here
Your grace Lord, it saved me.
By the grace of my God
I come a long way.
By the grace of my Lord
I come a long way
By the grace of my Lord
I come a long way.
I've been traveling this stormy land
Lord come take hold of my hand
By the grace of my Lord
I come a long way
*mumbles words
