NOTES: "A Few More Years Shall Roll," by written by Horatius Bonar in 1842. A version was recorded by Stanley Brothers for King Records.

According to Kentucky folksinger Jean Ritchie the song was part of Old Regular Baptists in the Little Zion Church service (her Mom's church) along with other hymns like Long Time Traveling,  Poor Pilgrim of Sorrow, I've Got a Mother Gone to Glory (Stanley Brothers), My Head and Stay, Jesus Grant Us All a Blessing, Sweet Rivers of Redeeming Love and The White Pilgrim

Bonar wrote these words while superintendent of the Sunday school at the Church of St. James, Leith. It was one of the first hymns he wrote, and the only one he composed specifically for his Sunday school students. It was sung for the first time on New Year's Day, 1843. Bonar published it in his Songs for the Wilderness the following year.

A FEW MORE YEARS SHALL ROLL- Horatius Bonar (1808-1889)

A few more years shall roll,
A few more seasons come,
And we shall be with those that rest
Asleep within the tomb;
Then, O my Lord, prepare
My soul for that great day.

   Refrain: O wash me in Thy precious blood,
   And take my sins away.

A few more suns shall set
O'er these dark hills of time,
And we shall be where suns are not
A far serener clime:
Then, O my Lord, prepare
My soul for that blest day.

A few more storms shall beat
On this wild rocky shore,
And we shall be where tempests cease,
And surges swell no more;
Then, O my Lord, prepare
My soul for that calm day.

A few more struggles here,
A few more partings o'er,
A few more toils, a few more tears,
And we shall weep no more:
Then, O my Lord, prepare
My soul for that bright day.

A few more Sabbaths here
Shall cheer us on our way,
And we shall reach the endless rest,
Th'eternal Sabbath day;
Then, O my Lord, prepare
My soul for that sweet day.

'Tis but a little while,
And He shall come again
Who died that we might live, Who lives
That we with Him may reign;
Then, O my Lord, prepare
My soul for that glad day.

A FEW MORE YEARS- Stanley Brothers- King records

A few more years shall roll,
A few more seasons shall come
Then we shall be with those at rest
Asleep within the tomb
Then oh my Lord prepare
My soul for that great day

Wash me in Thy precious blood
And take my sins all away

A few more meetings here
Shall cheer us on our way
And we shall reach that endless rest
On that eternal day
