Hi,
It's been ages since I've posted and the Bluegrass Messengers have changed. There have been two different bands since the last post, now there's a third band with two earlier members.
Here's the current 2011 line-up:
(Left to Right) Rob Mitchum (Mandolin) Roz Carothers (Fiddle) Richard Matteson (Guitar- Vocals) Roger Miller (Banjo- Vocals) Jim Zils (Electric- Stand-up Bass) Mike Grissom (Dobro)
We've got some talent and more than that we love playing music. We have about two sets of songs and we are working on new songs that we will be adding shortly.

Hi,
As you know I'm revamping my group, the Bluegrass Messengers. We are practicing once a week and are performing on Friday May 29 at 6:00 at Ahoy Fish Hutt on 2902 Bardstown Rd. Louisville, KY 40205
Call (502)451-5508 for info.
We just about got a full band now that Roz has joined on fiddle and Wayne will be playing dobro and some on banjo.
I'm still working on the lyric section and have made it to letter H-I on the fiddle tunes and have started the Bluegrass Blues and Jazz Lyric section A-B. Only a few thousand hours to go lol....

Hi,
The newly revamped Bluegrass Messengers played thier first gig at Ahoy Fish Hutt on Bardstown Road last Sat. May 16. We have potential but haven't played together long. We are practicing once a week at Highland UMC on Thursday.
I have two banjo students playing banjo and another one that will also help out soon. None of them are advanced enough to do many solos. Steve Watkins is playing mandolin and he's a fairly good picker and a fine instrument maker. Greg Newton played stand-up bass plus we have several back-ups for bass that can fill-in. I'm playing guitar and singing and Meredith Scott is singing. Meredith has a good voice and knows many of the gospel tunes, she's also harmonizing and singing the second parts. There's a fiddle player that might start practicing and performing soon too.
We'll be playing next Friday at Ahoy Fish Hutt on Bardstown Road from 6:00 to 8:00.
See you there,
Richard

Welcome to Bluegrass Messengers blog!
Currently we are reorganizing in Louisville KY. I've been busy with two of my other bands and haven't had the energy to get the ball rolling here. Eventually I'll have a new band back together. There's alot of talented pickers in Louisville so I'm excited about the possibilities.
I'll start featuring different bluegrass and old-time artists in the coming weeks. If you want to pick give me a holler: 502-290-5090.
