NOTES: "Beautiful Stars" is a traditional gospel song by Dorsey & Howard Dixon with Beatrice Dixon singing back-up. The song was recorded in 1937 in Charlotte NC on Bluebird records, Victor records discount label.
Duet singing was considerably facilitated by the introduction into Southern folk culture of the guitar immediately after World War I. It has remained the most popular form of secular ensemble singing, and during the thirties duet styles totally dominated commercial country music.
BEAUTIFUL STARS- Dixon Brothers
Intro w/slide
I see beautiful stars a-shinin',
Way up in the deep blue sky.
When I come home from where I am going,
In that golden bye and bye
CHORUS: Oh the beautiful (Oh the beautiful) stars are shining
All around (all around) the milky way.
Bye and bye (bye and bye) I'll soon be going
To that land of endless day.
Once I had a loving Savior,
Left me here so long ago.
To prepare a home in glory,
For His faithful ones below.
CHORUS: Oh the beautiful (Oh the beautiful) stars are shining
All around (all around) the milky way.
By and bye (bye and bye) I'll soon be going
To that land of an endless day. ( brief guitar break)
When my life on earth is over
I'll see Jesus coming on up there.
I'll join my loved ones up in glory,
Among the beautiful stars so fair
CHORUS: Oh the beautiful (Oh the beautiful) stars are shining
All around (all around) the milky way.
By and bye (bye and bye) I'll soon be going
To that land of an endless day.
