NOTES: "Another River to Cross" or "I've Got Another River to Cross" is a traditional spiritual collected from Sensational Nightingales in 1978. The Chorus is difficult to understand with the other voices so I arranged it for a solo voice below.
The lyrics are similar to the chorus of "One More Ribber For To Cross" by James Hosey and Thos. P. Westendorf circa 1870-80. The song is about Noah's ark.
CHORUS : There's one more river,
And that's the river of Jordan,
There's one wide river,
There's one more river to cross.
Another River to Cross- Sensational Nightingales Jesus is Coming Peacock/MCA 1978
*CHORUS: I've got another river, to cross, oh yes I have
Before I (before I) I can reach (can reach) my heavenly home
He promised to meet me (Jesus promise meet me) He said he would
(At the bank of the river) I believe He will
Because the tide, (because the tide) oh yes,
Is too strong (Is too strong)
To cross it alone, (to cross it alone) I gotta have Jesus
Because the tide, (The tide) is too strong to cross it alone.
VERSE: If I stand on the banks of Jordan
And I'm gazing across life's dark tide
Jesus promised to hold me, close to his busom
He said He take me, safely to, the other side
He said He take me, safely to, the other side
CHORUS:
I'm gonna stand right here and wait on Jesus
Although sometime I might stand alone
I'm not worried I'm not afraid
Jesus will do what He says
He said He take me, safely to, my heavenly home
He said He take me, safely to, my heavenly home
CHORUS: I've got another mountain...
* [CHORUS solo] I've got another river to cross,
Before I can reach, my heavenly home
He promised to meet me, at the bank of the river,
Because the tide, is too strong, to cross it alone,
Because the tide, is too strong, to cross it alone.
