"Ain't It a Shame" was used in the 1922 African-American musical comedy, "Shuffle Along" in NYC as an encore. it was in the repertoire of many of the gospel quartets in the 1920s and 1930s including the Golden Gate Jubilee Quartette out of NC. The song was in the repertoire of gospel recording Rev. W. M. Mosley.
