508. It's Raining Here
Something like this, though not the same song, has been reported
from Kentucky (BKH 127). As we have it here it is clearly a
Negro blues song.
'Blue Yodel Number Five.' From the John Burch Blaylock Collection.
1 It's raining here,
Storming on the deep blue sea ;
Oh, it's raining here.
Storming on the deep blue sea.
Ain't no black-headed mamma
Can make a fool out of me.
2 Now I can see a train
Coming down the railroad track ;
I can see that train
Coming down the railroad track.
And I love to hear
The bark of that old smoke stack.
3 Talk about trouble.
That's all I've ever known ;
Talk about trouble,
That's all I've ever known.
Now if 1 hadn't been a man
1 would have stayed at home.
1 may need clothes,
1 may need hat and shoes ;
I may need clothes.
I may need hat and shoes.
Makes no difference what I need,
I'll never sing the blues.
