This version came to Dan Tanner from his mother. Mr. Tanner was born in Bangor, Maine and spent his early boyhood in Michigan. At the age of twelve, he began working in the Kelly Mills near Wausau. Later he returned to Michigan to work in lumber camps for 17 years.

Bedroom Window- Sung by Dan Tanner, age 75, Boyne City, Michigan, 1941. (Transcribed from a recording made by Mr. Tanner’s grand-nephew, Paul Curtiss, a University of Wisconsin student)

A-weeping there so bitterly?
A-rouse a-rouse you drowsy sleeper
He softly whispered unto me
