This Good Old Man- Vanscoyoc (OH) pre1939 Eddy
[From: Ballads and Songs from Ohio- Eddy, 1939. My title, another title could be, Home Came This Good Old Man.]
25. OUR GOODMAN (Child No. 274)
From Mrs. Jane Vanscoyoc, Perrysville, Ohio
1. Home came this good old man.
Home came he,
A-crying to his loving wife,
"Oh, loving wife," said he,
"How came this horse here
Without the leave of me?"
2. "You old fool, You blind fool,
Can't You plainly see
It was a milk cow my mother sent to me!"
"Miles I have traveled,
Five hundred miles or more,
And milk cows with a saddle
I never saw before."
3. Home came this good old man,
Home came he,
A-crying to his loving wife,
"Oh, loving wife," said he,
"How came this man here
Without the leave of me?"
4. "You old fool, You blind fool,
Can't you plainly see,
It's a baby my mamma sent to me?"
"Miles I have traveled,
Five hundred miles or more
But babies with whiskers on
I never saw before."
