1. The first night that I came horne so drunk I couldn't see
Saw a coat hangin' on the rack where my coat oughta be.
Called my wife, my pretty little wife, to explain this thing to me,
I asked her what that coat was doin' where my coat ought to be.

She said, "Oh, you fool, you drunken fool, can't you even see
That's only a bedspread your grandma gave to me."
"Now, I've traveled this whole world over, a thousand times or more,
But pockets on a bedspread I never saw before."

2. Now the second night that I came home so drunk I couldn't see.
Saw a horse in the stall where my horse oughta be.
Called my wife, my pretty little wife, to explain this thing to me
I asked her what that horse was doinn where my horse ought to be.

She said, "Oh, you fool, you drunken fool, can't you even see?
That's only a milk cow your grandma sent to me?"
"Now, I've traveled the whole world over, a thousand times or more,
But a saddle on a milk cow I never saw before."

3. Now, the third night that I carne home so drunk I couldn't see.
Saw a head layin' in the bed where my head oughta be.
Called my wife, my pretty little wife, to explain this thing to me,
I asked her what that head was doin' where my head ought to be.

She said, "Oh, you fool, you drunken fool, can't you even see?
That's only the cabbage head your grandma gave to me.
"Now I've traveled the whole world over, a thousand times or more,
But a moustache on a cabbage head I never saw before."
