"Our Goodman" Hubbard C, 1961, p. 36. Sung by Dean Baker, Plain City, UT; July 31, 1947.

The other night when I come home
As drunk as drunk could be.
I saw a head upon the bed
Where my head ought to be.

"Oh, wifey dear, oh wifey dear,
Oh, please explain to me
Who is the head upon the bed
Where my head ought to be?"

"Oh, father dear, oh father dear,
Oh, can't you plainly see?
It's only a cabbage head
That granny gave to me."

"Oh, miles I have traveled,
Ten thousand miles or more,
But hair on a cabbage head
I've never seen before."
