[My title, replacing Our Goodman. These standard lyrics may have been based on a recording- no way of telling.]

The Other Night When I Came Home- Wilkinson MSS. Sung by Miss Alice Bruce, Harrison Va., 11-23-1935.

The other night when I came home as drunk as I could be,
I saw a horse a-standing in the stable where my horse ought be.
You durn fool, you blind fool, and why you cannot see:
It's nothing but a milkcow your granny gave to me.
I've been all 'round this whole [wide] world for fifty years or more,
A saddle on a milk-cow, I never saw before.

The second  night when I came home as drunk as I could be,
I saw a hat a-hanging on the rack, where my hat ought be.
You durn fool, you blind fool, and why you cannot see:
It's nothing but a baby blanket, your granny sent to me.
I've been all 'round this whole wide world for fifty years or more,
I never saw a baby blanket with a band round it before.

The other night when I came home as drunk as I could be,
I saw a head on the pillow where my head ought be.
You durn fool, you blind fool, and why you cannot see:
It's nothing but a cabbage head your granny sent to me.
I've been all 'round this whole wide world for fifty years or more,
I never saw a cabbage head with a moustache on before.
