Barbara Allen- (NY) pre1939 Thompson B
[No informant named; two stanza excerpt from: Body, Boots, & Britches: Page 379 by Harold William Thompson - 1939. He says, "In another version her scorn is emphasized," and gives a partial text which was probably derived from print.
His A version sounds very generic. Thompson give three versions from NY, two are partial versions and C has a few unusual stanzas.
R. Matteson 2015]
In another version her scorn is emphasized:
She turned her body round about
and spied the corpse a-coming!
"Lay down, lay down, the corpse," she said,
"that I may look upon him."
With scornful eyes she then looked down,
Her cheeks with laughter swellin',
While all her friends cried out and in,
"Unworthy Barbara Allen !"
