THE LORD OF THE NORTH COUNTRY- sung by Margaret Moomaw Tuckwiller in 1969.
1- There was the Lord lived North Country,
Bow down.
There was the Lord lived North Country,
Bow down you bittern to me.
There was the Lord lived North Country,
And he had daughters, one, two, three,
If this be true to love, my love, my love be true to me.
2-There was a young noble came courting there,
Bow down.
There was a young noble came courting there,
Bow down you bittern to me.
There was a young noble came courting there
and he did love the youngest fair,
If this be true to love, my love, my love be true to me.
3- He gave the youngest a beaver hat,
Bow down.
He gave the youngest a beaver hat,
Bow down you bittern to me.
He gave the youngest a beaver hat
and the oldest sister she didn't like that,
If this be true to love, my love, my love be true to me.
4- Sister, oh sister, come walk by the shore,
Bow down.
Sister, oh sister, come walk by the shore,
Bow down you bittern to me.
Sister, oh sister, come walk by the shore
and watch the ships as they sail o'er.
If this be true to love, my love, my love be true to me.
5- As they walked by the soft sea brim,
Bow down.
And as they walked by the soft sea brim,
Bow down you bittern to me.
And as they walked by the soft sea brim,
the oldest pushed the youngest in,
If this be true to love, my love, my love be true to me.
6- Oh sister, oh sister, come reach me your hand,
Bow down.
Oh sister, oh sister, come reach me your hand,
Bow down you bittern to me.
Oh sister, oh sister, come reach me your hand
that I may see my home again,
If this be true to love, my love, my love be true to me.
7- Oh I'll not reach you my hand or my glove,
Bow down.
Oh I'll not reach you my hand or my glove,
Bow down you bittern to me.
Oh I'll not reach you my hand or my glove
because you stole my own true love.
If this be true to love, my love, my love be true to me.
8- She bowed her head and she swam away,
Bow down.
She bowed her head and she swam away,
Bow down you bittern to me.
She bowed her head and she swam away,
she swam into the Miller's Bay.
If this be true to love, my love, my love be true to me.
9-Miller, oh miller, come reach me your hand,
Bow down.
Miller, oh miller, come reach me your hand,
Bow down you bittern to me.
Miller, oh miller, I'll give you my gold and my land,
that I may see my home again.
If this be true to love, my love, my love be true to me.
10- The miller he took his old cant hook,
Bow down.
The miller he took his old cant hook,
Bow down you bittern to me.
The miller he took his old cant hook
and pushed the girl right back in the brook.
If this be true to love, my love, my love be true to me.
11- They hung the miller on his mill gate,
Bow down.
They hung the miller on his mill gate,
Bow down you bittern to me.
They hung the miller on his mill gate
for the murder of the sister Kate.
If this be true to love, my love, my love be true to me.
