[From a video made by HECTV St. Louis. Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msKfDhOWjJI
This version is nearly identical to Tip Mckinney's version. Tip was a member of Pope's Arkansas Mountaineers, an old-time band that recorded in the 1920s. His versions came from his father, who learned them in Mary, Kentucky.
R. Matteson 2015]
Gypson Davie - performed by Judy Stein (c. 2013) in an Ozark style from the 1920s; St. Louis, MO.
1. Go fetch up my little black horse
The speediest one of many,
And I'll ride down to the maple swamp,
And see if I can overtake her
CHORUS: Rattle- daddle did-diddle-lid-diddle-liddy
Rattle- daddle did-diddle lie-dy
Rattle- daddle diddie pretty ole daisy,
Gone with the Gypson Davie.
2. Then I rode down to the Maple Swamp
It was so thick and gaily,
Enough to make the wildwoods ring,
And charm the heart of a lady
Rattle- daddle did-diddle-lid-diddle-liddy
Rattle- daddle did-diddle lie-dy
Rattle- daddle diddie pretty ole daisy,
Gone with the Gypson Davie.
