Taskiana Four.  Victor 1926   Creep Along Moses

OTHER NAMES:  "Creep Along Moses, Moses Creep Along"

RELATED TO:

SOURCES: John Work's "American Negro Songs."

NOTES: "Creep Along Moses" is a traditional spiritual from Byants Jubilee Quartet 1928. After listening to Taskiana Four version I've corrected lyrics on the BRIDGE. The only questionable lines are the first and third lines of the first verse.

"Tryin' To Cross The Red Sea" is the title of the song as it appears in John Work's "American Negro Songs."

Creep Along Moses- Byants Jubilee Quartet 1928

CHORUS: Creep along Moses, Moses creep along
Creep along Moses I thank God
Creep along Moses Moses, creep along
Creep along Moses I'm goin' home.

CHORUS:

BRIDGE (slowly): Tell old Pharoh,
Get along,
Get along,
Get along.
Tell old Pharoh,
Get along,
Get---
Tryin' to 'cross the Red Sea.

VERSE: I goes to the doctor, my Lord I do
Tryin' to 'cross the Red Sea.
If you don't mind set Satan on you
Tryin' to 'cross the Red Sea.
I wonder what the devil keeps hollerin' about
Tryin' to 'cross the Red Sea.
He's down in Hell and can't get out
Tryin' to 'cross the Red Sea.

CHORUS: BRIDGE (slowly):

VERSE: Way down in the valley offer up prayer
Right 'cross the Red Sea.
When I got there ole Satan was there
Right 'cross the Red Sea.
Then I fell down upon my knees
Right 'cross the Red Sea.
Cryin' Lord have mercy if you please
Right 'cross the Red Sea.
