J. The Student Boy- Sung by Mrs. Walker of Rayne, Aberdeenshire about September 1906, probably from family tradition.
A student boy came a courting me,
He stole frae me my liberty
My liberty wee free good will
But I must confess I love him still.
There's a turtle dove on yonder tree
Some says it's blind and cannie well see
I wish that had been the case wee me
When first I meet in we his com[pan]ay.
When I'm dead and in my grave
And the long long grass groying over me,
You'll place a stone at my head and feet
To let the whole world know I died for love.
