Summary - The woman regrets that she fell in love with a student who turned out to be a thief, and says that things were different when she was young
A Foolish Young Girl- sung by John Strachan (1875-1958) who was a farmer in Fyvie, Aberdeenshire. Recorded by Hamish Henderson in 1952.
A foolish young girl was I, was I
To fall in love with a student boy;
A student boy although he may be,
He's a daring rover and he's come to court me.
O things are not as they used to be,
When I was a girl o' twenty-three,
When I was in pain and not far wrong,
Was a different world when I was young.
