Apron Strings- sung by John Collinson of  Kirkby Lonsdale, Westmorland on 13 November, 1905. Collector: Percy Grainger.

When my apron strings were low
My love followed me through frost and snow,
And now when my apron strings are high
My love goes by and never looks nigh.

He goes to the beer shop just below,
And takes another girl on his knee,
now don't you think it's a grief to me.

A grief, yes a grief, a grief in pain,
But her money will fade her beauty will sport
And then poor girl be like me in time.
