Brisk Young Miner- James Parsons (Lew Down) 1888 Baring-Gould

Brisk Young Miner- J. Parsons (Lew Down) 1888 Baring-Gould

[Single stanza with music from Sabine Baring-Gould Manuscript Collection (SBG/3/12/52A). These note I collected:

James Parsons, a very infirm man, over seventy, asthmatic and failing, has been a labourer all his life, and for the greater part of it on one farm. His father was a ballad singer.

A Brisk Young Miner- sung by James Parsons of Lew Down, Sept., 1888. Collected by Baring-Gould.

A brisk young miner courted me,
He stole away my heart from me,
My heart I gave with right good will,
For all his faults I love him still.
