Rosemary and Thyme- Allen (OK) pre1964 Moores D
[Single stanza with music. From Ballads and Folk Songs of the Southwest, Moores; 1964.
R. Matteson 2014]
D. Rosemary and Thyme was sung by Mrs. Martha Ellen Allen of Moore. The evening she was approached about the song, she could think of only the first refrain. "I haven't thought of that song for years. Give me a little time," she said. The first sound Mrs. Allen's daughter heard the next morning was the gentle hum of her mother; over a cup of coffee she sang the stanza below.
"As you go down to yondos town,
Rosemary and thyme!
Give my respects to that fair young maid,
And tell her she's a true lover of mine."
