A Maiden Young and Fair-
1933 Airman's song

A maiden young and fair was she,
Brought up in high society,
An airman young and bold was he,
Who brought this maid to despair.

Now when her apron strings would meet.
He'd walk with her through snow and sleet.
But when her apron strings would not meet,
He's pass her by out on the street.

Her father coming home one night
Found his house without a light
He went upstairs to go to bed
When suddenly he turned his head.

He went into his daughter's room
And found her hanging by a rope
He took his knife and cut her down
And on her breast he found this note:

I wish my baby had been born
Before these troubles had begun
So dig my grave both wide and deep
And lay white lilies at my feet.

So all you airmen bear in mind
A girl's true-love is hard to find
So if you find one good and true
Don't change the old one for the new.
