Young Sailor Boy- sung by Mrs. Duncan, New Deer, taken down by Earnest Coutts, Grieg's son-in-law.
1. I fear your Willie, an' he's nae here,
For he's drownded in the deep I fear,
The very last night that the wind blew high,
We lost a charming young sailor boy.
2. . . .
She called for paper to write it on,
An' at every letter she dropped a tear,
An at every line she called, "Willie dear."
3. O sailor sailor ye'll dress in black,
O sailor sailor, look mournfa' like,
Put a black silk flag on your topmast high,
And I pray go mourn for my sailor boy.
4. She wrung her hands and tore her hair,
And she sunk her into deep despair,
And herself oot over a rock she's thrown,
Says, "How can I live when my Willie's gone."
