R. Matteson 2016]
Pretty Polly - sung by P.J. Moses of Kentucky, no date given but before 1931.
There was a fair lady in London did dwell,
There was a fair lady in London did dwell,
There was a fair lady in London did dwell,
Her beauty was more than tongue could tell.
I courted the lady one whole long night, [bis.]
And left the next morning before it was daylight.
"Oh come, Pretty Polly, come go with me;
Before we get married some pleasure we'll see."
I led her over hills and valleys so deep,
Till at last Pretty Polly began to weep.
"Sweet William, sweet William, I fear from your ways,
You're going to lead my poor body astray."
