Lord Henry- Sprague (NB) 1928 Barry (fragment)

Lord Henry- Sprague (NB) 1928 Barry (fragment)

[My title, one stanza fragment. From British ballads from Maine (Phillips Barry, Fannie Hardy Eckstorm, Mary Winslow Smyth - 1929). This is a single stanza fragment given from recitation after prompting. Barry notes follow.

R. Matteson 2014]

On the border, we have found a fragment of the second form of the ballad, represented by our B-text. September 29, 1928, Mr. Ernest Sprague of Milltown, New Brunswick, repeated the following lines, which are easily recognized as parts of stanzas 4 and 9 of a late text of "Young Hunting":

"Ride on, ride on, Lord Henry," she said,
Ride on beneath the sun;
And see if your friends in Scotland
Are waiting to welcome you home."
