E. "Hangman" - Sung by Miss Mary Drain, Farmington, Ark., January, 29, 1942 derived from her paternal grandparents about 40 years ago.

1. Hangman, hangman, hold your rope,
Hold it for awhile,
I think I see my mother a-comin',
She's walked for many a mile.

2. Oh mother, oh mother, have you brought me any gold?
or have you come to pay fee?
Or have you come to see me hung
Here on this gallows tree?

3. Oh son, oh son, I've brought you no gold
Nor I've not come to pay your fee, €
I've come to see you hung,
Here on this gallows tree.

4. Hangman, hangman, hold your rope,
Hold it for awhile,
I think I see my father a-comin',
He's walked for many a mile.

5. Oh father, oh father, have you brought me any gold?
or have you come to pay fee?
Or have you come to see me hung
Here on this gallows tree?

6. Oh son, oh son, I've brought you no gold
Nor I've not come to pay your fee, €
I've come to see you hung,
Here on this gallows tree.

7. Hangman, hangman, hold Your rope,
Hold it for awhile,
I think I see my true love a-comin',
She's walked for many a mile.

8. Oh true love, oh true love, have you brought me any gold?
Or have you come to pay my fee?
Or have you come to see me hung
Here on this gallows tree?

9. Oh true love, oh true love, I've brought you some gold,
I've come to pay your fee,
I've not come to see you hung
Here on this gallows tree!
