I 'Twas in the city of Wexford
The merchant he did dwell
He had one only daughter
Her I did love well.

2 She was both tall and handsome,
With a dark and rolling eye.
I promised for to marry her,
And that I can't deny.

3 I went unto her sister's house
At the hour of eight o'clock,
In hopes to meet with my own true love,
For I had not long to stay.

4 I says, Fair maid, will you take a walk,
. . ...[meadow] gay,
        talk
[And fix our] wedding day.

5. We walked along
