Waxford Girl - copied from an MSS book of Mrs. Hattie Bitner of Waltonville

"My son, my son what have you done,
To bloody your hands and clothes?"
The answer that he gave her
Was the bleeding of the nose

He asked her for a candle
To light him to his bed;
And then that night while sleeping
This maid ran through his head.

He took her by the locks of hair,
As we may understand,
And throwed her in the river
Just below the old mill dam.

"Lye there, lye there, you Waxford girl;
You thought you would be my bride,
But never shall you be my bride
or unto me be tied."
