The Unquiet Grave- William/Earl Bolick (NC) 1965

[On Capitol ST2483, JEMF 104. William and Earl Bolick are the Blue Sky Boys and this version of the "Unquiet Grave" was relased on Capitol Records in 1965.

I can only assume it's an arrangement and have no information about the source. It can be heard on youtube titled "Twelve Months and a Day."

The Unquiet Grave- William and Earl Bolick (Hickory, NC) 1965

[brief interlude- mandolin and guitar]

1    The wind doth blow today, my love,
With a few small drops of rain;
I never had but one true love,
In cold grave she has lain.

2    "I'll do as much for my true love
As any young man ever may;
I'll sit and mourn all at her grave
For a twelve months and a day." [brief break]

3    The twelve months and a day being up,
The dead began to speak:
"Oh who sits weeping on my grave,
And will not let me sleep?"

4    " 'Tis I, my love, sitting on your grave,
And will not let you sleep;
For I crave one kiss of your clay cold lips,
And that is all I seek."

5    Tis down in yonder garden green,
Love, where we used to walk,
The finest flower that ever was seen
Is withered to a stalk.

6    "The stalk is withered dry, my love,
So will our hearts decay;
So make yourself content, my love,
Till God calls you away."
