10. [Lord Robert]- Karpeles, 1934, II, pp.- 83-87., with original text, transmitted by the collector. Sung by Thomas Ghaney, Colliers, Conception Bay, Newfoundland, October 22, 1929.

1. Arise, arise, King Henry, he said,
Or are you not at home?
Arise and take care of your youngest daughter dear,
For the eldest are going with me.

2. Arise, arise, my seven sons bold,
And put on Your armour so bright,
It never shall be said that daughter of mine
Shall be married to a lord or a knight.

3. Arise, arise, Lady Margaret, he said,
With the white steed in your hand,
While I go and fight with your seven brothers bold
And your father in the meadow where he'll stand.

4. Lady Margaret she rose and held the white steed,
She stood and never shed a tear,
Until she had seen her seven brothers fall
And her father that loved her so dear.

Ease your hand, ease your hand, Lord Robert, she cries'
For your blows they are wonderful sore,
For sweethearts I may g€et, many's the one,
But a father dear I never will get more.

Choose your choice, choose your choice, Lady Margaret, he say,
Wilt you come along with me for bride?
I must go along with, you, Lord Robert, she said,
For you've left me without any guide.

7. Lord Robert he mounted on a milk-white steed,
And she on a dapple grey.
He went sounding of his bugle loud and shrill
And went bleeding along the highway.

8. He bled till he came to his own mother's door,
How loud he did rap at the ring.
Open the door, dear mother he cries,
You know my fair lady I have won.

9. Make my bed both deep and wide,
O make it wide and deep,
And lay Lady Margaret down by my side
May the sounder or the better I may sleep.

10. Lord Robert he died about midnight,
Lady Margaret she died before day.
I hope every couple that now be together,
That they may find more enjoyment till day [1].

1. than they.
