Little Mathey Groves- Tuggle (AL-OK) 1895 Moore A

[My date, single stanza with music from the Moore's book, Ballads and Folk Songs of the Southwest; 1964. The informant, William Tuggle was born in Alabama and learned his blalads from his father who was born in Georgia. He moved to Oklahomas in 1895, so I'm assuming the ballad pre-dates 1895.

And ah-la-dee, And a ah- la- day, [1]
The very first day of the year.
Little Mathy Grove was going to church,
God's holy word for to hear,
