As ever lay stone.
He built a fine castle
And pay he got none.
2 The landlord to his lady,
Before he left home
To beware of Bold Adkins
He comes unknown.
3 "What cares I for Adkins,
What cares I for him.
My doors are fast locked up,
My windows barred in."
4 Bold Adkins he come
And tingled at the ring,
The false nurse she rose up
And let him come in.
5 "Where is the landlord.
Or is he at home?"
"He is gone to Maryland[1]
To buy me a ring."
