[From British Ballad From Maine; 1929, Barry, Eckstorm and Smyth. Their notes follow.

B. Lamkin. Fragment recited, September 21, 1927, by Mrs. Oliver K. Joyce, Gott Island, off the coast of Mount Desert. The lines seem to be the opening of the text given above (see version A).

1 Said the lord to his lady,
"I'm going out of town;
Beware of Lamkin
While I am gone."

2 "I care not for Lamkin,
Nor none of his kin,
My doors are all bolted,
My windows pinned in."

"Lamkin came to see her and told the nurse to prick the baby's shoulder with a gold or a silver pin, so the lady should come down."
