The Life of Georgie- Sung by Mrs. Belle Richards of Colebrook, NH, April 22, 1942 Olney/Flanders
As I walked down yonder lane,
Yesterday morning early,
It was there I spied a pretty fair main,
Lamenting for her Georgie.
She went up to the King's high hall,
Where times she had been many,
Saying, "Good Lord Judge, take pity on me
And grant me the life of Georgie."
The King walked up and down the hall,
Feeling very sorry,
Saying, "Madame, you have come too late;
Your George is condemned already."
"George is not the worst of men;
He's never. . . .
But he stole sixteen of the King's fair steeds
And sold them in Virginia."
Georgie was hung with a silken cord
Such as there are not many
For he was the son of a noble knight
And loved by a fair lady.
