Bonny Banks of Batt'ry O- Snow (NL)1929 Karpeles D

[My title, single stanza- other stanzas not given. Version D is listed under “The Bonny Banks of Virgie-O”  from Folk Songs from Newfoundland by Maud Karpeles, collected in 1929 from Mrs. May Ellen Snow at North River. The Snow family was a large family and Maud collected another version from Florrie Snow-- the relationship is not known.

Additional information comes from the article, Song Collecting in Newfoundland: Maud Karpeles, 1929 by David Gregory, Athabasca University. The notes say: Maud first went to North River on October 15th, and that day's diary entry read as follows:

Maud found three singers at the McCabe residence the next day: May, Violet, and Mary Ellen Snow. Violet offered “The Twelve Apostles” and “The Spanish Main,” while Mrs. Snow contributed “The Bonny Banks of Batt'ry O” and a fragment of "Morning Dew."

D. Bonny Banks of Batt'ry O- Sung by Mrs. May Ellen Snow at North River, Conception Bay, 16th, October 1929

It's three pretty maids went out for a walk,
On a lee and a lonely home.
They met with a robber on their way
On the bonny, bonny banks of Batt'ry O.
