Sir, I See You Comin' Again- Marybird McAllister (VA) 1958

Sir, I See You Comin' Again- McAllister (VA) 1958

[From Anglo-American Folksong Style, taken from a recording made by Roger Abrahams, and George Foss, Also titled The Drunkard's Courtship.

A more accurate transcription of stanza one is:

It's sir, I see you coming again,
Pray tell me what it's for?
It's when we parted on yonder hill,
I told you to come no more, no more,
I told you to come no more.

"Sir, I See You Comin' Again" from the singing of Marybird McAllister, Brown's Cove, Virginia, 11-5-58. Collected by Roger   Abrahams, and George Foss.

1. Sir, I see You coming again.
Pray tell me what it's for?
'Cause when we parted on yonders hill
I told you to come no more, no more,
I told you to come no more.

2. Miss, I have a very fine horse,
He paces against the tide.
And he shall be at your command
Whenever you wish to ride, to ride,
Whenever you wish to ride.

3. Sir, I know you've a very fine horse
Standing on yonders turn.
His master drinks and does get drunk
And I'm sure the horse'll learn, 'll learn,
And I'm sure the horse'll learn.

4. Miss, I have a very fine farm,
It's sixty acres wide.
And that shall be at your command
If you will be my bride, my bride,
If you will be my bride.

5. It's sir, I know your very fine house,
And also a very fine yard.
Who shall stay with me at night
When you a-playing at cards, at cards,
When you a-playing at cards?

6. Miss, that's something I never did,
I never thought was right.
If you'll consent to be my bride
I won't stay out nary a night, a night,
I won't stay out nary a night.

7. Sir, I know just what that's for,
It's just to take me in.
If I consent to be your bride
You'll drink and gamble again, again,
You'll drink and gamble again.

8. Miss, I have a very fine mule,
He pulls my buggy well.
I'll drink my drugs and throw my cards,
And you can go to hell, to hell,
And you can go to hell.
