I'll Have No Drunkard to Please- sung by Mrs. Myrtle Love Hester of Florence, Alabama on 8 June, 1947. Collector: Byron Arnold
1. "Madam, I have a very fine house,
And also a very fine yard,
if you'll consent to be my bride
I'll leave off playing cards, cards
I'll leave off playing cards."
2. "Oh Sir, I know you've a very fine house
And also a very fine yard,
Bur who will sit by the side of my bed
When you're off playing cards, cards,
When you're off playing cards?"
3 "Madam, I quit that long ago;
I never did think it was right,
If you'll consent to be my bride,
I'll never stay out at night, night,
I'll never stay out at night."
4 "Oh Sir, I know you,ll promise me that,
And think to take me in,
But if I consent to be your bride,
Then you,ll go gambling again, again,
Then you'll go gambling again."
5 "Madam, I have a very fine horse,
And he paces like a tide,
And you can have him at your command
Whenever you wish to ride, ride,
Whenever you wish to ride."
6 "Yes Sir, I know you've a very fine horse;
He stands in yonder barn,
But his master loves to tilt his glass,
And I m afraid he can't learn, learn,
And I m afraid he can't learn."
7 "Madam, you're a very proud miss
And very hard to please,
When you get old and shiver in the cold,
I hope to the Lord you freeze, freeze,
I hope to the Lord you freeze."
8 "Oh Sir, I know I m a very proud miss,
And very hard to please.
But when I get old and shiver in the cold,
I'll have no drunkard to please, please,
I'll have no drunkard to please."
9 "Madam, I'll take my very fine horse,
For he pulls my buggy well;
I'll drink my dram and throw my cards,
And you can go to hell, hell,
And you can go to hell."
