My Father Lies- Sung by Mrs. Notley of Higher Woodsford, Dorset in January, 1907. Collected by H.E. Hammond.

My father lies in the very next chamber,
My mother she is quick to hear,
Go sport [1], go sport or court some other
And whisper softer in her ear.

I won't go sport or court some other,
Nor whisper softer into her ears,
Tis time for you to leave your mother[2]
You're fitting for your true love's arms.
