Yonder Sits- Charles Chivers (Hants) 1906 Gardiner
[My title. From: George Gardiner Manuscript Collection (GG/1/9/491). Text is missing in EFSD wher it's titled, Madam I Am Come a Courting. Three of Chivers' stanzas are given in Wanton Seed, where the version is a compilation.

Yonder Sits- sung by Charles Chivers of Bassingstoke, Hampshire
Yonder sits a pretty fair virgin
Who is she I do not know,
I'll go court her for her beauty,
Let her answer me "Yes" or "No."
* * * *
Madam don't think so much of beauty,
Beauty's a thing that will soon decay,
For the finest of flowers that shines in the summer,
Die away on a cold winter's day.
* * * *
First come cowslips then come daisies,
And after night then comes day,
After false love then comes a true love,
See how it pass[es] a little time away.
