As I went Up Yon High Hill- sung by John Ross, Wester Lone Vine Farm, Delny, Scotland c. 1929.

1. As I went up yon high high hill,
I met a bonnie lassie
She looked at me and I at her
But aye she looked so sassy.

Withy my turrin ha, turrin nee,
Turrin urrin addie.

2. "O what's your name, my bonnie, bonnie lass
O What's is your name, my honey?"
Right modestly she answered me,
"My mommie calls me Annie."

3. O where's ye goin', my bonnie, bonnie lass
O where ye goin', my honey?"
Right modestly she answered me,
"An errant to my mommie."

4. O if I would come to your mommie's house
When the moon was shining clearly
Would you arise an' lat me in,
When the auld wife would not hear me.

5. O if you would come to your mommie's house
When the moon was shining clearly,
O I would  rise an' lat you in,
An' my mommie would not hear you.

6. O, he went to her mommie's house
When the moon was shining clearly,
An' she rose an' lat him in,
An' the old one did not hear him.

7. And off she's gone with the soldier,
In spite of her old mommie.
