Remember Well- Fred High (MO) 1951 High

[From Old Folk Songs by Fred High, p. 46, c. 1951. Minor changes in spelling. 2nd stanza shifts to 1st person dialogue for 3rd and 4th lines rather poorly, tried to fix it. Original text is in footnotes. Fred High could barely spell and the texts are run-on sentences, poorly divided,

Remember Well- transcribed by Fred High as it appears in his little book of "Old Folk Songs" p. 46.

Remember well and bear in mind,
That a good true friend is hard to find
And when you find one good and true
Change not the old one for the new.

My love is like a little bird,
That flies from tree to tree,
And when he[1] is with a fairer girl,
He don't never think of me[2].

Must I go bound and him go free
Must I love a boy that don't love me
Or must I act the childish part
And love that boy that broke my heart

Then bring back my blue-eyed boy
Go bring back my darling to me
Go bring back my blue-eyed boy,
And happy a-would I ever be.
