Little Swallow- anon (NC) c.1939 Abrams A
[MS from Abrams Collection lyric variation 1, a 2 stanza fragment curiously identical to Brown B stanzas 6 and 7 except swallow (archaic) instead of sparrow.
R. Matteson 2017]
I Wish I was a Little Swallow- no informant named or date given
1. I wish I was a little swallow,
Had wings, and oh! could fly so high.
I'd fly away to my false lover
And when he'd ask, I would deny.
2. Alas, I am no little swallow,
No wings, and cannot fly so high.
I'll sit me down in grief and sorrow
And try to pass my trouble by.
