Chapel Park- sung by Thomas Colcombe of Weobley, Herefordshire  in September, 1906. Collected by F. Jekyll.

1. In Chapel Park there did dwell
A brisk young lad I knew quite well
He courted me, my heart to gain
He's gone and left me full of pain.

2. I went upstairs for to make the beds
I laid me down and nothing said
My mistress came and to me said
"What is the matter with you, maid?

3. My missus away from me did go,
"Some help, some help I will have for you,"
"No help no help, no help, I crave,
Since William has brought me to my grave."

4. Taking this letter to him with speed
And give it to him if he can read,
And bring me an answer without delay,
For he has stolen my  heart away.

5. Then she took this letter immediately,
And he read it over while she stood by
But soon he did this letter burn
Leaving this maid to make her mourn.

6. O cruel young man I know thou art
For thou hast broken my own child's heart
But now she's sleeping [slumber, sleep]
While my tormenting soul shall weep.
