A Female Farmer- Randall (Hants) 1907 Gardiner

[From Gardiner Collection (Vaughan Williams online). Gardiner didn't write out full text. He refers to the Wigg and Digweed versions. This is the first and third stanzas of Digweed's version.

A Female[1] Farmer - Sung by Mrs. Randall of Preston Candover, Hampshire in October 1907. Collectors were  G.B. Gardiner and Charles Gamblin.

A female[1] farmer, so I've been told,
He had two sons, one daughter dear
By a servant man was courted,
No one on earth she loved so dear.

They asked of  him to go a-hunting.
To hunt he went without any care or strife,
These two brothers  proved so cruel:
They took away that young man's life.
