NOTES: "Yellow Cat" is a popular Patrick County dance tune more widely known as "Cousin Sally Brown. The tune was recorded by the Sweet Brothers with Ernest Stoneman under the "Cousin Sally Brown" title in 1928.
Kuntz has the lyrics and info from Thede: D Major. ADae tuning. AABB. The tune has some resemblance to a Pennsylvania‑collected square dance tune in Bayard (1981; No. 90, pg. 55).
A differnt tune by the same title is found in Judy Hyman with the Horseflies (Ithica, N.Y.) [Phillips]. Phillips (Traditional American Fiddle Tunes), vol. 1, 1994; pg. 261.
YELLOW CAT, THE (Thede)
The yellow cat jumped
And he jumped on the wall.
The black cat jumped
And he couldn't jump a‑tall.
