NOTES: Joe and Odell Thompson's version use the "Western Country/Fly Around My Pretty Little Miss" lyrics. The Carolina Chocolate Drops do an excellent cover of this tune that they learned from Joe Thompson. The only difference I can hear is the last part of two lines which sounds like "all around my daisy."
Related to "Send for the Fiddle, Send for the Bow," with versions by Elizabeth Cotton and by Dink Roberts.
The song under this title was first collected in 1920 or 1921: "The Black-Eyed Daisy," sung by Mrs. Jennie Belvin, Durham, NC in Brown Collection. (See Version 1)
A version was collected by Karpeles and published in EFSSA Vol. 2 in 1932, (#127C):
Send for the fiddle and send for the bow.
And send for the blue-eved daisy.
Send for the boy that broke my heart
And almost sent me crazy.
BLACK EYED DAISY- Joe and Odell Thompson's
(Fiddle Banjo)
Send for the fiddle and send for bow
Send for the black-eyed daisy
You won't come and I won't go
Almost drove me crazy, all around my day
Almost drove me crazy, all around my daisy
(Fiddle Banjo)
Send for the fiddle and send for bow
Send for the black-eyed daisy
You won't come and I won't go
Almost drove me crazy, all around my day
Almost drove me crazy, all around my daisy
(Fiddle Banjo)
BLACK EYED DAISY- Carolina Chocolate Drops
(Fiddle Banjo)
Send for the fiddle and send for bow
Send for the black-eyed daisy
You won't come and I won't go
You almost drove me crazy, You almost drove me crazy,
You almost drove me crazy, You almost drove me crazy.
(Fiddle Banjo)
Send for the fiddle and send for bow
Send for the black-eyed daisy
You won't come and I won't go
You almost drove me crazy, You almost drove me crazy,
You almost drove me crazy, You almost drove me crazy.
(Fiddle Banjo)
