NOTES: "A Is for Apple Pie" is an alphabet song, beginning "A is/stands for apple pie, B baked/bit it" and perhaps ending "And don't you wish you had a piece of apple pie?"
The first six lines of this piece appear in John Eachard's 1671 pamphlet "Some Observations upon the Answer to an Enquiry into the Grounds & Occasions of the Contempt of the Clergy." It first appears as an educational tool in Mary Cooper's 1743 spelling book, "The Child's New Play-thing," and was common in nineteenth century texts (often under the title, "The Tragical Death of an Apple Pie" or similar).

The song also appears simply as "A is For Apple" and is also known as "Average Boy."

A is for Apple Pie- Collected by Vance Randolph  in 1940 from May McCord

A is for apple pie,
B baked it,
C cut it,
D divided it,
E eat it,
F fought for it,
G got it,
H had it,
I eyed it,
J jumped at it,
K kicked at it,
L longed for it
M mourned for it
N nodded for it
O opened it
P peeked into it
Q quarterd it,
R ran fot it
S sought it
T tasted it
U used it
V viewed it
X Y Z izzered it,
Don't you wish you had a peice of Apple Pie

A Was an Apple Pie

A was an apple pie,
B bit it,
C cut it,
D dealt it,
E eat it,
F fought for it,
G got it,
H had it,
I inspected it,
J jumped for it,
K kept it,
L longed for it,
M mourned for it,
N nodded at it,
O opened it,
P peeped in it,
Q quartered it,
R ran for it,
S stole it,
T took it,
U upset it,
V viewed it,
W wanted it,
X, Y, Z, and ampersand
All wished for a piece in hand.
